Unidentified Mill Scene
Summary
View of an unidentified mill in nineteenth century Manchester. A large mill is visible in the centre and to the right of the composition, surrounded by smaller buildings within the walls of the workhouse. Groups of people can be seen in the foreground beyond the walls; ladies and gentlemen take a leisurely stroll, mill workers go about their duties, and a gentleman sits in a horse drawn carriage to the left. The sky above is cloud covered and filled with smoke from chimneys of the mill.
