S. E. Le Cardinal Manning
Summary
Portrait of a cardinal, he is holding an open book in his hands. He is looking right. Henry Edward Manning (1809-1892) graduated from Oxford and was ordained as an Anglican priest. In 1840 he was appointed archdeacon of Chichester. In 1851 he joined the Roman Catholic church. In 1865 he became Archbishop of Westminster and in 1875 he was named Cardinal.
