Summary
On the front, above the inscription, are the heads of Alcock and Brown in flying helmets, side by side; on the back, is a biplane in the clouds flying over the globe and the winged coat of arms of the City of Manchester. Made the 1st nonstop transatlantic flight in June 1919. They flew to Manchester for a civic reception in July, which is what this medal commemorates. This medallion is a reduction of a large wall-medal on display in the Manchester Town Hall, Sculpture Hall. Arthur Whitten-Brown (1886 - 1948 ) and John William Alcock (1892 - 1919), born in Ladybarn, Manchester.
