Summary
Public: Set made of sage green tinted parian, enriched with gilding and white underglaze pate-sur-pate reliefs of cherubs. Comprises diamond shaped tray with everted sloping sides and integral handles; straight sided oval teapot with oval lid surmounted by knob; ewer shaped jug with spreading foot, wide lip and loop handle from rim to base of main body; oval sugar bowl with flat integral solid handles; two small straight sided cups with loop handles; and two deep saucers. Private: Pate-sur-pate reliefs: on teapot, cherub standing on roses playing a pipe to listening birds, on reverse cherub with net running on scalloped shell with roses; jug, cherub with beads hovering above wild flowers; sugar bowl, cupid with arrows reclining on grass, on reverse cherub holding wild rose reclining amongst wild roses; cup, cherub swinging amongst convulvulus; cup, cherub playing with flowers sitting on leaves; saucers each wreathed with a differing band of wild flowers. Gilded decoration includes; lines on top and bottom of each piece; stylized floral border running along the inner rim of each cup, the sugar bowl and the jug; identical border encircles the well in each saucer, the flat top of the the teapot and appears banding the inner rim of the tray; further gilding on handles and knob on teapot, lid of teapot, foot and handle of milk jug. Three main areas of gilding on tray; on handles double lattice work; around inner border thick band comprised of several thinner bands of varying decoration; diamond shaped motif in centre of tray. Manufacturer's shape 1855.
