Summary

Public: Urn shaped lidded vase made of parian porcelain, painted in underglaze blue and overglaze blue enamel, decorated with tooled gilding and white pate-sur-pate relief decoration of trophies and cherubs. Private: Urn shaped vase with splayed foot connected to body with a screw, two garland-shaped ring handles and flared neck. Lid with bud like knob. Dark, underglaze blue with additional overglaze royal blue decoration on foot, lower part of body, scrolling above shoulder and on rim and lid. Extensively enriched with tooled gilt classically inspired decoration, including star motifs on main body, border of fruiting vines just below shoulder of vase and gilded handles. The white pate-sur-pate reliefs shows a cherub sitting next to a rose bush, on a bench, under which a basket with roses, and talking to a cupid who holds a bow and arrow ; on the opposite side a set of trophies including a basket of flowers, small cage and assorted musical instruments. pattern : No.632 shape : 1013
