Summary
Public: Milk jug, soft paste porcelain, slight blue tint to glaze, transfer-printed overglaze, in black, with scenes of ruins. Private: Milk jug, pear shaped body, tapered footring, cut deep curve to rim, projecting angular lip, wishbone handle, shalloow ribs either side, pointed at thumbrest and spurs at terminals. Blue tint to glaze evident in pooling on handle and footring. Transfer-printed overglaze, black, with scenes of Italian ruins. Ruins by a Lake shows foreground lake with ducks. Centre, man stands in front of ruined colonnade and columns, one topped with sculpture, doorway with pointed entablature, flanked by trees. Distant mound and buildings. Ruins with Obelisks shows ruined curved colonnade around central pyramid shaped obelisk. Two men stand to right amongst wooded Italian landscape, distant right buildings. Enamelled overglaze black band inner rim.
