Summary
James Paine (1725–1789) was the architect of many country houses and his son followed in his profession. Paine shows his plans for a pavilion for the 9th Duke of Norfolk at Worksop Manor. The seal of the charter of the Society of Artists, of which James Paine was President, can be seen above the sitters. The oil painting by Joshua Reynolds is in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
