A reproduction produced by the Vasari Society of a drawing by Sir Joshua Reynolds. This portrait of a man is drawn with thick, angular lines. He is standing facing forward, with left arm bent at the elbow and holding a hat in his right hand. Some very loose lines indicate the ground he is standing on. Text from the accompanying booklet produced by the Vasari Society: "20. SIR JOSHUA REYNOLDS, P.R.A. (b. 1723; d. 1792) STUDY FOR A WHOLE-LENGTH PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN STANDING BARE-HEADED, HAT IN HAND Ruskin School of Drawing, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Bistre, brush and pen on rough cream-coloured paper. 41.2 x 27.4 cm. (15 1/4 x 10 3/4 in.). This sketch, admirable for the emphasis and authority with which the figure is posed and placed within the design, is in a manner which recalls the studies of Romney, but has more character and decision. It is one of the same set as the last. The portrait has not yet been identified. L. B."
