Flower-design 1924 Eric Arthur Rowton Gill 1882-1940 Relief wood engraving Ink squash is a characteristic of relief prints, and can be seen here in the bottom left corner; this is a contrast with the cleaner line of the intaglio print. The wood grain can be seen across the image as the block was not completely cleaned of ink during the inking process. The bolder image is a characteristic of relief prints.
